In a grand closing ceremony, the prestigious four-dayevent “Tehri Water Sports Cup-2023”hosted by THDC India Limited at Tehri Lake, concluded on 17 September 2023withthe gracious presence of Chief Guest Satpal Maharaj, Cabinet Minister (Tourism, Irrigation and Culture),Government of Uttarakhand in the august presence of J Behera, Director(Finance) THDCIL, L P Joshi, Head of Project (Tehri Complex), Prashant Kushwaha, President, Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association, Dr D K Singh, Secretary General, Uttarakhand Olympic Association, along with other eminent dignitaries. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Sh. Satpal Maharaj, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister(GoUK) conveyed his appreciation that THDC has always been a front runner in all verticals of harnessing energy and has not only consistently been contributing to the growth story of the Nation but has always actively participated in the overall socio-economic upliftment of the populous. Minister extended warm appreciation to all the victorious participants and athletes, emphasizing the importance of motivating young talents to engage in such sports activities to foster a vibrant sporting culture in India. J Behera, Director(Finance)extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and participants. He highlighted that THDC India Limited, in collaboration with the Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association, Uttarakhand Olympic Association, and ITBP as a technical partner, successfully organized the Open National Canoeing Sprint Senior (Men & Women) Championship and Qualifier for the 37th National Games-2023 from September 14th to 17th, 2023. Sh. Behera informed that this exciting and National-level prestigious sports event has been successfully organized by THDCIL, with the participation of a total of 450 players from 22 States, in which eight teams have qualified for participation in the National Games scheduled in Goa in October 2023. Speaking on the occasion, R K Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director, THDCIL emphasized THDCIL's prominent stature as a leading power generator ofthe nation, firmly dedicated to societal development. He emphasized the transformative potential of such sporting events in motivating and galvanizing the younger generation to participate actively in national-level sports championships, thereby infusing pride and spirit of Nationalism, with the raising of the Nation's Flag high at International platforms. Vishnoi stated that THDC has always encouraged the youth of Uttarakhand to actively participate in adventure sports like Kayaking and Canoeing. Vishnoi also underscored the multi-faceted impact of these events, highlighting their role in employment generation, fostering tourism, and nurturing a robust sports culture within the state. He proudly noted that Tehri Lake is progressively gaining international recognition as a result of such esteemed sporting activities. He added that THDC India Limited remains steadfast in its commitment to contributing significantly to the Nation's growth and development while actively promoting the spirit of sportsmanship and adventure. L P Joshi, Head of Project (Tehri Complex) profusely thanked the Management of THDCIL for overall guidance and support in the successful hosting of this National-Level Water Sports Competition. THDCIL is one of the premier power generators in the country with installed capacity of 1587 MW with commissioning of Tehri Dam & HPP (1000MW), Koteshwar HEP (400MW) in Uttarakhand,Wind Power Projects of 50MW at Patan & 63MW at Dwarka in Gujarat, 24MW Dhukwan Small Hydro Project, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh and 50 MW Solar Power Project at Kasaragod, Kerala to its credit.
