High Courts facing shortage of 404 judges

While several lakhs cases are pending in various courts across the country, 25 high courts are working with merely 675 Judges as compared to the sanctioned strength of 1079 Judges, as on October 1, which means that the High Courts are facing a shortage of 404 Judges. While 401 posts of Judges were vacant in the High Courts in September, it was 394 in August and 389 in July.
