Around 33% IPS posts have been lying vacant in various Central Police Organizations (CPOs) and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) have been hit the hardest. According to Government data, 206 posts of IPS officers are vacant in various CPOs and CAPFs. Mainly the posts of IG, DIG and SP are vacant, who primarily supervise the investigation. However, there are no vacancies of IPS officers at the top level, which means officers are keen to come on central deputation only at the top positions. Among the two premier investigation agencies, IB has 82 vacancies against the sanctioned IPS strength of 192 officers. The CBI has a sanctioned strength of 128 IPS officers but 49 posts are vacant.
