AeSI remembers Dr APJ Abdul Kalam

The Aeronautical Society of India,Delhi Branch organized the annual Dr APJ Abdul kalam Memorial function this year on  July 26, 2019 at The Park Hotel, New Delhi.  “Dr. Kalam was one of the chief architect who shaped the technologies for defence preparedness of India” said Dr. Satish Reddy while delivering the Dr Kalam Memorial lecture in New Delhi at a function organized by Aeronautical Society of India.Dr Saraswat, Member NITI AYOG and the chief guest of the function, while appreciating the recent achievements of DRDO for ASAT and of ISRO for successful launch of Chandrayaan-2,spoke about the need for higher focus on industry 4.0 and launch of low cost satellite systems. Civil aviation in India will see induction of more than 1000 aircrafts in next 7-10 years, thereby needing additional 15,000 plus pilots. Conventionally a person needs about 18-24 months of training for a basic pilot license, besides a cost of Rs 20 lakhs plus. MPL (multi-crew pilot license) can produce a co-pilot in just 10-12 months (total 240 hours including 210 hours in simulator) at much less costs. This kind of pilot licensing has been accepted by ICAO (international civil aviation organization) in the year 2006 and many developed countries since then has already adopted it. It is high time that India also adopts it in view of huge demands of creating pilots for Indian skies. AeSI will spearhead an awareness/update initiative in India in this direction for regulatory approvals and adoption” said Dr. R.K. Tyagi, President AeSI and former Chairman HAL/Pawan Hans Helicopters.
