Arun Goel’s appointment as Election Commissioner surprises many

Arun Goel, Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries, who sought voluntary retirement, has been appointed as Election Commissioner in Election Commission of India. He is a 1985 batch IAS officer of Punjab cadre. In the corridors of power, his appointment in EC has surprised many because several heavyweights in IAS and IPS officers were in the run for the prestigious post.
