BEL team demonstrates EVM and VVPAT in Botswana

Based on the request letter of Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Botswana, a three member team from Bharat Electronics Limited visited Botswana for in-depth demonstration of EVM and its elated components like VVPAT to Botswana Cabinet Ministers, Political parties and media. After reaching Botswana, team discussed with IEC, Botswana about the news published, the hackthon of India EVMs in Botswana. BEL informed that team was deputed only for demonstration of EVM and VVPAT. IEC confirmed that BEL team had been requested to make in-depth presentations and demonstrations of EVM and VVPAT and categorically denied having arranged for hackathon on the Indian EVM. IEC also assured BEL that the EVMs brought for demonstration would be under safe custody and would not allow anybody to open the machines during the demonstration. No attempt was made to open or tamper the EVM units throughout the stay in Botswana, BEL said.
