BEML and UMPESL Forge Strategic Partnership UPDATED
BEML Limited, a leading Defence PSU under the Ministry of Defence, has entered into a strategic MoU with Universal MEP Projects & Engineering Services Limited (UMPESL), a 100% wholly owned subsidiary of Voltas Limited, a Tata Enterprise, to jointly pursue productivity-driven Fleet Management Contracts (FMC) across India’s coalfields.
The MoU was signed at BEML Headquarters, Bengaluru, by Sandeep Manohar Matey, Chief General Manager & Head – SBU (Sustenance), BEML Ltd, and Sharad Thussu, Vice President – Mining & Construction Division, UMPESL, in the presence of Sanjay Som, Director (Mining & Construction), Sachin Dighde, Director (Defence) of BEML, and senior officers of both companies. The partnership combines BEML’s OEM expertise in heavy mining equipment with UMPESL’s extensive capabilities in field service, maintenance and fleet management.
The collaboration will focus on comprehensive operation and maintenance (O&M) projects, particularly for Coal India Limited (CIL) and its subsidiaries, covering BEML’s range of Bull Dozers, Excavators, Loaders, Dumpers and Surface Miners. The partners will leverage engineering analytics and performance monitoring to enhance equipment availability, optimise lifecycle costs and drive higher fleet productivity.
Commenting on the partnership, Shantanu Roy said, “This partnership brings together BEML’s OEM and engineering strengths with UMPESL’s field-service expertise to deliver integrated, performance-driven fleet solutions. Together, we aim to enable higher equipment uptime, safer operations and greater productivity across India’s mining sector.”
Under the proposed operating model, BEML will serve as the principal bidder, providing equipment, genuine spares, OEM-level technical support and training, while UMPESL will lead site operations with skilled manpower, mobile service infrastructure, tools and performance monitoring, supporting DGMS-compliant safety practices.
