Both Secretaries are serving IAS officers, tradition broken

After a long gap, serving IAS officers were appointed as secretaries to the President and Vice President of India. Odisha cadre 1987 batch IAS officer Rajesh Verma is scheduled to retire in August 2024. He is the Secretary to the President. His batchmate West Bengal cadre IAS officer and Secretary to the Vice President, Suni Kumar Gupta will retire in December 2023. Earlier, for many years, retired bureaucrats were appointed to this post.
