The country is scheduled to get a Chief Election Commissioner in February and he will be appointed by the new rule. The process has reportedly begun in this direction. A search committee, under the chairmanship of the Law and Justice Minister, will find out a suitable panel of officers, which will be sent to the PM-led selection committee. The selection committee will have the LoP in LS and one Cabinet Minister appointed by the Prime Minister.
