The Centre is poised to roll out a four per cent hike in dearness allowance (DA) for central government employees in March 2024. The computation of DA for employees and dearness relief (DR) for pensioners is made on the basis of the latest Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) brought out by the Labour Bureau every month. The DA hike will be in accordance with the accepted formula, based on the recommendations of the Seventh Central Pay Commission. In October last year, the Cabinet had increased the DA for government employees and DR for pensioners by four per cent. With that four per cent hike, the DA was increased from 42 per cent to 46 per cent.
