Centre enhances post-retiral payment of SC judges

The Centre has notified an amendment to the Supreme Court Judges Rules, 1959, which provides for enhancing post-retirement benefits to the retired judges of the Supreme Court, including the Chief Justice of India.The amendment, issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on Thursday, seeks to enhance the payment to a retired Chief Justice from Rs. 25,000 per month to Rs. 70,000 per month. Likewise, a retired Judge shall now be entitled to a payment of Rs. 39,000 per month instead of Rs. 14,000 per month.
