Centre’s apathy disappointing Mizoram?

The MHA has, although given assurance to help Mizoram Government that had sought Rs 10 crore to provide assistance to people from the neighbouring state of Manipur, who took shelter in Mizoram due to the ethnic violence in their state but no aid has been received yet. The state is disappointed at this apathy, said a source. The Mizoram Government is helping these Internally Displaced People (IDPs) on its own resources. The state Government has recently released Rs 5 crore to provide relief to these IDPs that are approximately 12,000 in number. ‘It is extremely saddening that the centre is still unresponsive to this humanitarian help’, said a source. Even the Chief Minister of the state Zoramthanga had written to the Prime Minister and the union Home Minister. A state delegation led by Tourism Minister Robert Romawia Royte and other officials, including Home Commissioner and Secretary H Lalenmawia had also met Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla on the issue in Delhi last month. Although the Union Home Secretary assured of help, no assistance has reached till today nor any word coming from the Centre since then.
