With the Supreme Court (SC) working with 28 judges –six judges less than the sanctioned strength of 34 – and seven more SC judges set to retire till the end of his tenure in August 2022, the present Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana, will have an opportunity to recommend the names of around 13 Supreme Court judges during his incumbency. Three SC judges – Justices RF Nariman, Ashok Bhushan and Navin Sinha – will retire by the end of this year. Besides, four SC judges – Justices AM Khanwilkar, LN Rao, Vineet Saran and RS Reddy – are set to retire before August 2022.
