CM leads inauguration of heritage-to-development projects in Pachmarhi

Nestled in the emerald folds of the Satpura ranges, Pachmarhi—Madhya Pradesh’s iconic hill station and ecological treasure—has received a transformative facelift. In line with PM Narendra Modi’s vision of “Virasat Se Vikas” (From Heritage to Development), CM Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated and laid the foundation for a series of tourism development projects worth over Rs 33.88 crore. This initiative aims to transform heritage-rich destinations into hubs of sustainable and experiential travel. At the event, Dr. Yadav emphasized, “Under PM Modi’s leadership, Madhya Pradesh is advancing by turning its legacy into a force for development. Pachmarhi, with its breathtaking beauty and historical significance, is being developed into a top tourist destination with world-class infrastructure.”

 

Principal Secretary for Tourism and Culture and MD of MP Tourism Board, Sheo Shekhar Shukla, added, “Pachmarhi has long been a favorite among travelers. With ongoing enhancements, we are committed to making every visit comfortable, memorable, and enriching.”

Key upgrades include improved infrastructure at major attractions—potable drinking water, scenic pathways, beautification works, and 'Pink Toilets' operated by local Self-Help Groups, promoting both sanitation and rural employment. In 2024, the hill station welcomed 2,87,579 visitors, a number expected to rise with these developments. At Dhoopgarh, the state’s highest peak, a Rs 60 lakh water pipeline now ensures clean drinking water. 'Pink Toilet Lounges' have been built at Jatashankar and Pandav Caves (Rs 19 lakh), while a 4 km stone-paved pathway at Jaystambh (Rs10 crore) offers ambient lighting and stylish seating.

 

Other highlights include beautification of Pachmarhi’s entrance (Rs 35 lakh), upgrades to Satpura Retreat (Rs 1.35 crore), and a polythene-free initiative supported by an RO water plant (Rs 34 lakh). Sites like Handi Khoh and several Satpura Tiger Reserve attractions are being enhanced with basic amenities worth over Rs 4 crore.

 

The Hilltop Bungalow is being converted into a luxury Heritage Homestay (Rs 6.70 crore), and a multifunctional community centre (Rs 9.90 crore) is under construction. A central nursery at Hotel Glen View (Rs 34 lakh) will support green initiatives. To promote wildlife tourism, 11 Trex Cruiser safari vehicles were launched. With these visionary efforts, Pachmarhi is set to become a model of eco-friendly, community-driven tourism.
