Maharashtra is facing acute shortage of Indian Forest Service (IFoS) officers and many important posts are vacant in the department. In the state, three tiger reserves and three territorial ranges lack Directors and Chief Officers respectively. The senior officials attribute the scarcity to low IFS officer intake in the 1990s. The sanctioned strength of the IFoS officers is 206 in the state and only around 150 are working. The state does not have enough officers of Chief Conservator of Forest (CCF) rank and consequently, the territorial ranges of Amravati, and Chandrapur are vacant.
