Delhi registers average AQI of 185 as against 200 in 2024

Delhi has registered its average AQI (Air Quality Index) of 185 as against 200 in 2024 and 211 in 2018 for the period between January 1 and November 26, 2025. This year the lowest number of fire events have been recorded in Punjab and Haryana so far in the last 7-8 years. During the period of (15 September – 26 November). Currently GRAP Stages I and II are in force under which several short-term measures across major sectors viz. C&D, Road Dust, MSW (Management and Burning), Vehicular, Industry, DG Sets etc are taken to prevent the AQI from deteriorating. For vehicular pollution, major initiatives include phasing out of diesel auto-rickshaws in NCR States, permitting plying of only cleaner fuel (EV / CNG / BS-VI) buses in Delhi-NCR, restricting entry of polluting commercial goods vehicles into Delhi and directing only clean fuel vehicles to be inducted in existing fleet by aggregators, all aimed at reducing vehicular pollution. CAQM is working closely with various stakeholders concerned to take effective measures for prevention, control and abatement of air pollution across all sectors and to improve the air quality in Delhi-NCR.  While Rajesh Verma  is Chairperson and Tarun Kumar Pithode is the new full-time Member Secretary of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) 2.
