With the post of eight Judges lying vacant in the Supreme Court, against an authorized strength of 34, two more SC Judges are set to retire in August 2021, the apex court is staring at 10 judicial vacancies. Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman will demit office on August 12, 2021, while Justice Navin Sinha is vacating office on August 18, 2021.  The last time Judges were appointed to the Supreme Court was on September 23, 2019, when four Judges were elevated to the bench. The Supreme Court Collegium (SCC) has failed to recommend new names for elevation to the top court in the past 22 months.
