As the 10-year tenure of the Seventh Pay Commission is set to conclude in January 2026, central government employees are pressing for its early establishment to ensure timely implementation of its recommendations, according to sources. Central government employees' representatives recently met the Cabinet Secretary, who stated that 2026 is "too far" and that the 8th Pay Commission is likely to be formed next year, sources added.
