First grass survey conducted in Nallamala

For the first time, DFO Nandyal, Vineet Kumar IFS conducted a two days workshop and survey program on 'Grasses identification and Grassland Management' in Gundla Brahmeswaram Sanctuary in NSTR. Grass expert Sri Manoj Chandran IFS from Uttarakhand gave training to our forest staff on identification of different species in the pristine GBM sanctuary of Nallamala forest. This is the first time such focus has been conducted on grasses in Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR). More than 50 species of grasses were identified in just 2 days. Staff from Atmakur, Markapur and Giddalur divisions of NSTR also participated in the training program. Grasses are very important for the ecosystem and we should conserve and preserve them. More than 70% of agriculture crops are grasses. During the 2 day program in Nallamala forest, wild rice, wild maize, wild ragi etc. which are all grasses were found and the program was a success.
