The Centre has informed the Lok Sabha that the Supreme Court is functioning with four judges less than the sanctioned strength and the country’s 25 high courts are facing a shortage of 419 judges as of February 1, 2021. Besides, there were 31, 30 and 40 vacancies of judges in the High Courts of Delhi, Bombay and Calcutta respectively.
