Generational shift in the IFS: Batch of 1992–1994 to replace 1988–1990 soon

The Indian Foreign Service (IFS) is currently undergoing a significant demographic transformation at its highest echelons. For years, India's most critical diplomatic missions have been helmed by seasoned veteran officers hailing from the 1988–1990 batches. However, as this established guard nears superannuation or reaches the maximum limit of their tenure extensions, a major change of the guard is actively underway. Throughout the coming year, South Block will increasingly elevate mid-senior diplomats from the 1992–1994 cohorts. This rising generation is poised to assume command of Tier-I capitals—including Washington, Moscow, Beijing, and London—during a period of unprecedented global multipolarity.
