An idea to cater to cruise tourism in India has existed in embryo with the Government of India holding a joint conference in this respect at Mumbai's Trident on August 8. It will showcase to the world that India, especially Mumbai, is ready and keen for cruise tourism. The Shipping Minister of GoI; Maharashtra Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Maharashtra; Shipping Secretary, Tourism Secretary from GoI, Sanjay Bhatia, Chairman, Mumbai Port Trust  as well as Chief of Carnival Cruise(one of top four Cruise companies) Dingle from USA will be attending the conference. A report submitted by the renowned International Consultancy firm hired by the Government of India to prepare a roadmap for development of cruise tourism in India highlights that if India takes the right steps for the cruise business, there is a potential of 40 lakhs passengers visiting India. Out of this, 30 lakhs will visit Mumbai.
