Govt notifies Tribunals Reforms Act, 2026: Amends rules for chairpersons and members of National Tribunal Commission

The government of India has notified the Tribunals Reforms Act, 2026, the rules of which would be applicable to the National Tribunal Commission.

As per the notification of September 30, 2026, now the Chairperson of the commission would be entitled to a salary of Rs 2.50 lakh per month while the members would be entitled to a monthly salary of Rs 2,25,000. Besides, the chairperson and members would be entitled to the perks and privileges as granted to Central government employees holding the same salary band.

The chairperson and members of the commissions will not be entitled to benefits of any additional pension or honorarium from the day they assume charge.

Likewise, leaves for the chairpersons and members are fixed at 30 days in a month and eight emergency leaves in a year. For the Chairperson, the leave granting authority would be the Union Government while for members leave, the chairperson would be the authority. For foreign travel the members and chairpersons will have to obtain prior permission of the govt.

Moreover, in case of a written complaint/allegation against the chairperson or member of a commission, a panel headed by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court of India, named by the Chief Justice of India will be formed. The committee will comprise a retired judge of high court as member and the government will name an administrator or financial expert to join the panel as member to probe the complaints/allegations.
