Situated at elevations ranging from 3,000 to over 5,500 metres above sea level, Ladakh is one of the world's most fragile mountain ecosystems. Characterised by extreme aridity, short growing seasons, climate vulnerability and accelerating land degradation, the region presents some of the most challenging conditions for ecological restoration anywhere on Earth.
Recognising these challenges as opportunities for innovation, IFS officer Rajesh S, APCCF & CWLW, Department of Forest, Ecology and Environment, UT Ladakh, launched a transformative portfolio of initiatives, redefining restoration science and practice in high-altitude cold deserts.
