Has BJP floor managers contacted some Congress MPs to abstain and help pass the Delimitation Bill?

Speculation is rife ahead of the upcoming parliamentary monsoon session regarding the Union government's strategy to pass the revised Delimitation Bill. Following the bill's defeat in April due to the ruling coalition falling short of a two-thirds majority, backroom political manoeuvring has reportedly intensified.

Sources indicate that the BJP’s floor managers are actively in touch with opposition MPs, including select members from the Congress, to explore tactical abstentions during the upcoming vote. As a constitutional amendment, the legislation requires a two-thirds majority of members present and voting to pass. The strategy focuses on engineering abstentions. By convincing targeted MPs to remain absent or abstain from voting, the total number of members participating drops, effectively reducing the mathematical threshold needed to clear the two-thirds benchmark.
