IAS Ashima Mittal building a greener, more vibrant and inclusive Jalna through citizen-centric public spaces

The Motibagh Beautification Initiative, spearheaded by District Collector Ashima Mittal, a 2018 batch Maharashtra cadre officer, represents a remarkable effort to transform prominent public space into a vibrant destination that celebrates Jalna's identity, culture and aspirations. Conceived as a citizen-centric urban development project, the initiative has successfully revitalized Motibagh into a modern recreational and tourism hub while preserving its environmental and social significance. 

One of the flagship projects is the development of the "MH-21 Food Court", inspired by Jalna's Regional Transport Office (RTO) registration code. Designed as a unique attraction, the food court provides visitors with a welcoming and comfortable space to enjoy local cuisine and spend quality time with family and friends. A large aesthetic shade structure has been installed to enhance visitor comfort and create an inviting atmosphere throughout the year. Existing shop units have been renovated and upgraded, providing improved facilities for vendors and a better experience for visitors. The rejuvenated food court has emerged as a lively social space that promotes local entrepreneurship while enriching the visitor experience. 

Adding further character to the site is the development of a spectacular Sunset View Point, which has become one of the major attractions within Motibagh. A grand sculpture of the State Bird of Maharashtra has been installed at this vantage point, symbolizing the district's rich natural heritage and ecological consciousness. The sculpture has been thoughtfully designed to represent the three pillars of Jalna's economic identity - Seed, Steel and Silk, popularly referred to as the "3 S" of Jalna. Through its artistic expression, the installation reflects the district's industrial strength, agricultural excellence and entrepreneurial spirit, creating a powerful visual landmark that resonates with citizens and visitors alike. 

The beautification initiative also incorporates an important educational dimension through the integration of traffic awareness themes across the park and food court area. Recognizing the need to promote road safety and responsible civic behavior, various installations, signages, and awareness elements have been incorporated within the Traffic Park and adjoining recreational spaces. These features provide an engaging platform for children, youth and families to learn about traffic rules, road safety practices and responsible citizenship in an interactive environment. 

The project reflects a holistic approach to urban development, combining recreation, education, culture, and sustainability. Landscaped gardens, improved pathways, seating arrangements, decorative lighting and enhanced public amenities has collectively transformed Motibagh into a destination that caters to people of all age groups. The initiative has not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the area but has also strengthened community engagement and public ownership of civic spaces. 

Under the leadership of District Collector Ashima Mittal, Motibagh has emerged as a symbol of Jalna’s progress and inclusive urban development. Aligned with the vision of “Rising Jalna” the project reflects administrations commitment to creating cleaner, greener and more vibrant public spaces while promoting tourism, local economic development and environmental awareness.
