IAS Deepak Soni is a 2011 Batch Officer of Chhattisgarh cadre and is currently posted as district collector of Baloda bazar- Bhatapara, Chhattisgarh. His Vision for the district is to engage and holistically empower the youth, ensuring they have right guidance and opportunities to build their future.
To achieve this, the ‘Hum Honge Kamyab’ initiative was launched. It helps young individuals to identify their weakness and strength and guides them in making career choices based on their dreams. "We designed this district-level program to nurture students in the right direction after their higher secondary education," Soni explained.
Explaining the reason behind such an initiative, Soni referred to the June 2024 incident in the district that led to a law and order situation "Apart from taking legal action, we analyzed the social aspect of it. A lot of youth were part of that mob, so we decided to create an engaging program in order to channel their energy positively," he said.
Under Soni’s leadership, Hum Honge Kamyab follows a multifaceted approach, structured around three key aspects. For Government Job aspirants, the administration has partnered with coaching centres and is providing free training to selected students preparing for competitive exams like PSC, state, railways etc. Additionally a district level Prerna Center has been established to offer foundational coaching. "While students who need a small push are sent to coaching centers, those requiring longer preparation receive 2-3 years of training at Prerna before appearing for competitive exams," Soni explained.
For Private-sector Jobs, regular placement camps are conducted to connect candidates with employment opportunities. The district skill development program has been revamped with modernised courses in drone technology, robotics, and heavy motor vehicles to improve employability. "We have tried to modernize skill development to ensure better job prospects, and many participants are now getting placed in various companies," he said.
For those seeking alternative career paths, the district fully sponsors the training and journey of youth qualifying for national games, encouraging excellence in sports "For those who may not be academically inclined or seeking immediate employment, we provide alternative career opportunities” he said. Additionally, an incubation center is in the works to support self-employment ideas, offering mentorship and seed capital.
To further strengthen the initiative, the "Nai Disha Abhiyan," was launched addressing addiction and mental health issues among youth. “In today’s world, social media influences young minds heavily. Seeing their peers succeed financially can lead to relative deprivation, causing anxiety and depression,” Soni explained.
"Nai Disha Abhiyan tackles both de-addiction and this sense of deprivation, ensuring that youth stay motivated while Hum Honge Kamyab helps them take their first step toward a successful career."
