IAS Kaushlendra Vikram Singh’s dream to make Bhopal the first slum-free capital of India

IAS Kaushlendra Vikram Singh is a 2010 Batch Officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre and is currently posted as District Collector of Bhopal, the capital of the state. Known for his progressive vision and efficient governance, he was previously honoured with Prime Minister's Excellence Award for successful implementation of  Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) in Neemuch.

His ambitious dream is to make Bhopal the first slum-free capital of India“If this happens, we will make history. And hopefully, it will, because before anything takes shape on the ground, it first takes shape in thought and vision”he said.

Recognising the significant number of people living in slums and the challenges they face, he pointed out“Nearly 20% of Bhopal’s population lives in slums so we started working on this four to five months ago.”

Given the depth of the project and the intricacies involved, the initiative is still in its conceptual phase due to the complexity of relocating families,ensuring proper rehabilitation, and addressing various logistical challenges.“It’s a massive task,” he admitted.

The first phase of the project is set to roll out in the next two- three months.Surveys have been completed and other projects like plans for relocation are in place and vacant land has been identified“Both the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary are closely monitoring the progress” he added. 

With the hope that this project will be remembered in history, he acknowledged the long road ahead.“While I may begin the work, it will be multiple collectors who will see it through. Once the process starts, it reaches its conclusion what matters is taking the first step,”he said.
