IATO Convention Showcases Andhra Pradesh as India’s Next Tourism Growth Destination UPDATED

Visakhapatnam: The 41st Annual Convention of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) concluded in Visakhapatnam after three days of intensive deliberations, networking, business engagements, destination promotion, and policy discussions centered around the theme “India: The World’s Next Tourism Opportunity.”

Hosted at Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach from 10 to 12 September, the convention brought together over 900 delegates, including leading tour operators, tourism stakeholders, hospitality industry leaders, policymakers, tourism professionals, and industry experts from across India and overseas, making it one of the largest gatherings of the travel trade fraternity in the country.

Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu underscored the State’s rich natural, spiritual, cultural, and heritage assets, emphasizing that enhanced air connectivity through new airports and expanded flight services would play a vital role in boosting domestic and international tourism.

Suman Billa, Union Additional Secretary and Director General (Tourism), outlined the Centre’s initiatives to strengthen the tourism ecosystem through policy support, destination development, improved infrastructure, and public-private partnerships. He stressed the need to promote emerging destinations and deepen collaboration with tour operators to diversify India’s tourism offerings.

Senior Andhra Pradesh Government leaders reiterated the State’s vision of positioning Andhra Pradesh among India’s leading tourism destinations by leveraging its coastal, eco, heritage, spiritual, and rural tourism assets. Discussions during the convention focused on tourism investments, connectivity, destination development, responsible tourism, and new growth opportunities.

A key highlight was the promotion of Godavari Pushkaralu 2027, with Andhra Pradesh Tourism unveiling curated tourism circuits and visitor experiences showcasing the region’s spiritual and cultural heritage. Delegates expressed keen interest in developing travel packages to promote the State across domestic and international markets.

The three-day convention featured business networking sessions, knowledge-sharing forums, stakeholder interactions, and presentations on responsible tourism. The valedictory session reaffirmed Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to creating a tourism-friendly ecosystem through progressive policies, enhanced connectivity, investor-friendly initiatives, and sustainable destination development.

Following the convention, IATO delegates will undertake familiarization (FAM) tours across Andhra Pradesh to experience its diverse attractions firsthand, fostering new tour packages, stronger industry partnerships, and wider market visibility. The event concluded with AP Tourism reaffirming its commitment to working closely with the travel trade to position the State as a leading global tourism destination while strengthening Visakhapatnam’s profile as a premier MICE destination.
