IMF Country Report of December 2017 has pointed out that "India’s key banks appear resilient, but the system is subject to considerable vulnerabilities. Stress tests show that while largest banks are sufficiently capitalized and profitable to withstand a deterioration in economic conditions, a group of public sector banks (PSBs) are highly vulnerable to further declines in asset quality and higher provisioning needs.".
The whispersinthecorridors.com assessment is that IMF report may bring about early consolidation of PSBs which may also lead to top-level restructuring in many PSBs in future.
