Sunita Singh, a senior officer of Indian Forest Service (IFoS) in Maharashtra when ignored for the important posting as Chief of the Forest Force, she approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Mumbai bench and challenged the order. Had she been promoted, she had become the first woman IFoS officer to head the field Forest administration. Instead, she was sent to Social Forestry. The state government appointed Shailesh Tembhurnikar as Principal Chief Conservator of Forest. The woman officer took the matter to the CAT. The first hearing held on September 14 and the next hearing will take place on September 26. The post of the PCCF had fallen vacant after YLP Rao retired recently. Singh is senior to Tembhurnikar. She is slated to retire in May 2024 whereas Tembhurnikar will retire in August 2024.
