India Waives Restrictions for Iranian LPG Cargoes in A Change of Policy !

India has granted waivers allowing two Iranian cargoes aboard an older tanker and a vessel under international sanctions to enter its ports, aiming to speed up energy supplies from the Gulf amid disruptions. Two officials familiar with the matter confirmed the decision, highlighting the urgency as the world's No.2 importer of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) battles its worst gas crisis in decades.

The Gulf disruptions, linked to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, have severely hit cooking gas supplies to India, forcing the government to ration industrial allocations to prioritize households. Waivers were issued only for vessels meeting strict safety standards and on a case-by-case basis, balancing security with energy needs.

This move follows MEA's wait-and-watch stance on Iran's Hormuz toll threats, ensuring friendly ships like these can transit without broader escalation. India is monitoring enforcement to protect maritime routes vital for its energy imports, underscoring the tight balance between diplomacy and domestic supply stability.
