Is PMO Preparing to Elevate Younger Ministers and Empower MoSs?

Sources indicate that the Prime Minister’s Office may be considering a calibrated shift in its ministerial functioning, with a sharper focus on empowering younger leaders within the government. The move, still at a speculative stage, could involve granting greater operational autonomy to Ministers of State (MoSs), many of whom currently function under close oversight from senior cabinet ministers and the PMO.

According to inputs, the earlier model of tight central monitoring may be eased in select ministries, allowing MoSs to take on more substantive policy and administrative responsibilities. This could also pave the way for the elevation of a few high-performing MoSs to Cabinet rank, particularly those who have demonstrated domain expertise and political effectiveness.

The potential recalibration appears aligned with a broader effort to inject generational change into governance while maintaining administrative continuity. It may also help streamline decision-making by reducing bottlenecks associated with centralized approvals.
