The Indian Statistical Service Association (ISSA) has adopted resolutions regarding various issues inter alia pertaining to the recruitment of the Chief Statistician of India in their General Body meeting held on March 13. The recent amendment to the recruitment rules (age criteria) for the post of the Chief Statistician of India (CSI) is in contravention to the original rationale for creation of the post to head the national statistical system and is thus not in the interest of the members of the Indian Statistical Service. The Association resolved to take up this matter with the concerned authorities. The Association resolved to also take necessary recourse to all appropriate constitutional processes and remedies to challenge the notification amending the recruitment rules of the post of CSI. The Association resolved to request the Government to expedite the upgradation of the existing 5 posts of Director General in the ISS to the apex (Secretary) level as is already available in the Indian Economic Service, a sister service with similar recruitment rules. The Association resolved to request the Government to carry out timely promotions at all levels of the ISS to address the issue of vacancies, stagnation and loss of morale among service members.
