Iyer- a longest serving Secretary in GoI

Parmeshwar Iyer has created a record. He is the only Secretary in GoI in  recent times who has completed five years as Secretary in the same department and will remain at the helm for sixth year also because he has been give one more year extension till April 30, 2021. He is a 1981 batch voluntarily retired UP cadre IAS officer. He was appointed Secretary in the newly created Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation in 2015 on Contract basis and since then he is continuing as Secretary. Now this separate ministry has become a department and has been put under the Ministry of Jal Shakti. Though he is a retired IAS officer, presently he is the senior most Secretary in the GoI.
