He was appointed to the country’s top bureaucratic post for two years in 2019 and since then his services to the post have been extended thrice, thus making him the longest-serving Cabinet Secretary (five years). He is a 1982 batch IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre. It is said he is now unlikely to get further extension.
