Lakshadweep clinches 100% literacy milestone under centre’s ULLAS drive
Lakshadweep has officially achieved 100 percent literacy, Administrator Praful Patel announced on Sunday, marking a landmark breakthrough under the Centre’s ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram. The declaration was made at the Secretariat in Kavaratti alongside the launch of several key development projects.
The achievement follows an intensive campaign by the Department of Education, which initially identified 1,113 adult non-literates across the archipelago. To bridge accessibility hurdles, volunteer educators conducted targeted lessons and doorstep assessments for residents unable or hesitant to visit designated centres.
With all eligible learners clearing the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test (FLNAT) following structured re-evaluations, the Union Territory successfully cemented its full literacy status.
