Major Leadership Reshuffles in Indian Railways

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the simultaneous empanelment (to Level-16 / GM-equivalent) and appointments of eight officers from the 1989 batch across various Indian Railway services. This was a strategic “clean-sweep” move to stabilize top-tier leadership in production units, zonal railways, and key organisations amid rapid modernisation and infrastructure expansion. It followed a stringent 2025 panel process that excluded 56 officers, reflecting a performance-based, selective approach under the updated Indian Railway (Selection to Senior Posts) Rules. Six of the eight officers have residual service until 2028, ensuring long-term stability and a clear generational shift. Manoranjan Pradhan (IRSS 1989) to General Manager, Rail Wheel Factory (RWF), Yelahanka (Bengaluru); Ashutosh Pant (IRSEE: 1989) to General Manager, Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW), Varanasi;  Prabhas Dansana (IRTS: 1989) to Director General, Research, Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO); Mohit Chandra (IRSEE: 1989) to General Manager, Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), Chittaranjan; Rajesh Kumar Pandey (IRSSE: 1989) to General Manager, Northern Railway, New Delhi; Shalabh Goel (IRSEE: 1989) to General Manager, Central Railway, Mumbai; Ashish Bansal (IRSE: 1989) to General Manager, Northeast Frontier Railway (Construction); Guwahati, Ajay Nandan (IRSME: 1989) to General Manager, Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala (longest tenure, retires June 2029); Ashok Kumar Verma (IRSS: 1987) to General Manager, Central Organisation for Railway Electrification (CORE), Prayagraj (from previous role, including GM Northern Railway). This facilitated the transition at Northern Railway to the new 1989-batch GM.
