MHA Sets Up Two More CAA Panels In West Bengal. TMC expected to block the panel's work with State Bureaucracy pressure?

Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has established two additional empowered committees in West Bengal to expedite Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) applications, raising the total to four in the state. A gazette notification dated March 2 specifies the new panels, headed by Deputy Secretary-rank officers nominated by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner. Each committee includes Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau, Foreigners Regional Registration Officer, NIC, and Post Master General representatives, plus invitees from state home department and railways. The move addresses the surge in applications from minorities like Matuas fleeing Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan before 2014. TMC continues opposing CAA as discriminatory amid Bengal's political heat ahead of 2026 polls.
