Mumbai Port handles 321 ships & nine Million Metric Tons of Cargo in lockdown period

During the LOCKDOWN Period, Mumbai Port has continued to handle large range of cargo viz Steel, Sugar, Pulses, Fertilizers, Cement, Calcite Chips, Lube/ Base oil, Bitumen, Motor Vehicles, Crude Oil, POL Products, and Chemicals at its berths in Indira Docks, Marine Oil Terminal- Jawahar Dweep, Chemical terminal- Pirpau, and midstream. Mumbai Port led by Sanjay Bhatia, CMD handled 9.6 MTs of Cargo from 321 vessels. During the lockdown period, Mumbai Port continues to handle Cruise Liners at its facility, enabling signing off of Indian crew on Board cruise ships around the World. Mumbai Port has been in the forefront in supporting the seafarers by helping them sign off at Mumbai Port. Till date 6 Cruise vessels berthed in the port and more than 1000 Indian crew handled. One of the huge Cruise ships OVATION OF THE SEAS (1168/135) was docked in the port. From June 12 to June 28, eight cruise liners called at Mumbai Port Trust to disembark some 10,000 Indian crew stuck on these floating luxury hotels after the pandemic halted their operations at various places across the globe. ‘Celebrity Infinity’, owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, has already arrived at the port with 907 crew to disembark in Mumbai; Anthem of the Seas’, also owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises, is in Mumbai to drop off some 3000 Indian seafarers; ‘Carnival Splendour’, the luxury liner owned by Carnival Corporation & plc is in Mumbai to disembark 920 crew; ‘Carnival Ecstasy’, the cruise liner owned by Carnival Corporation, is expected to arrive on June 18 to drop off crew; ‘Carnival Liberty’, also from Carnival Corporation arriving on June 20, to sign off 1,450 crew; ‘Carnival Fascination’, run by Carnival Corporation, will also anchor on June 20, to sign off 400 seafarers; ‘Horizon Pullmantur’, owned by Pullmantur Cruises, will arrive on June 23 to drop off 65 crew; ‘Norwegian Escape’, owned by Norwegian Cruise Line, on June 28, to disembark 1,250 crew; Earlier Mumbai Port Trust had facilitated the arrival and disembarkation of crew from ‘Marella Discovery’, ‘Seven Seas Voyager’, ‘Ovation of the Seas’, ‘Viking Orion’, ‘Angriya’ and ‘Karnika’; Some 20,000 Indian crew working on board cruise ships were left stranded all over the globe after the pandemic outbreak forced cruise lines to suspend operations; Cruise liners have travelled thousands of nautical miles to Mumbai, just to drop off the stranded crew. The crew sign off from cruise ships at Mumbai Port Trust has been made possible by the meticulous planning by port officials and efficient handling by the port pilots.
