Nagaland Government is firm to oppose Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and a resolution to this effect will be passed in the upcoming Assembly session. The Government is giving reference of Article 371(A) that guarantees that no act of Parliament would infringe upon the state’s social and religious practices. The decision was taken in a consultative meeting held recently. The Government is also prepared to oppose Forest Conservation Act’s latest amendment in 2023 and is set to introduce a bill in this connection. The Government invoked Article 371(A) again, stressing that the constitution of India ensured ownership of land and resources for the people of Nagaland.
