Dr. Anita Julka, Professor in the Department of Education of Groups with Special Needs(DEGSN), NCERT, developed this handbook to provide exemplary guidelines for meeting the special needs of children in an inclusive classroom. This handbook emphasizes the need to shift from the idea of children with special needs fitting into the existing classrooms, to classrooms accommodating the needs of all learners. The purpose of this handbook is to help make the transition to the expected changes towards including more and more diversity in the classrooms easier for teachers. It presents suggestions, tips, ideas and strategies towards helping the teacher make classrooms and teaching inclusive from the perspective of different subjects like Mathematics, Science, Languages and Social Sciences. This handbook which is written in very simple language and is not at all text heavy can be used by teachers as a self learning material. This book is not setting standards nor is it prescriptive. It presents enough scope for teachers to reflect and innovate.
