Next CEA to be a female!

With the three year tenure of Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) Krishnamurthy Subramaniam coming to an end on December 7 and his announcement that he would like to return to the academic field, search for his successor has started .Though Principal Economic Adviser Sanjeev Sanyal is ahead in the race, the government may have a female candidate for the coveted post. In such a case, the country would for the first time have both the finance Minister and the CEA from the fair sex. Meanwhile, sources said, three names that are being presently considered for the post of CEA are Ms. Geeta Gopinathan, Chief Economist, International Monetary Fund (IMF) who has also announced to return to academics in January, Dr. Pammi Dua – Professor, Delhi School of Economics and Ms. Poonam Gupta – DG, National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER).
