Operationalisation of 25 “Bhairav” light commando battalions

Indian Army’s infantry modernisation post-Operation Sindoor: Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai (DG Infantry) announced the operationalisation of 25 “Bhairav” light commando battalions (specialized for deep strikes) within six months, starting with the first battalion on November 1, 2025. Additionally, 380 “Ashni” drone platoons (20-25 soldiers each) have been raised across all infantry units for ISR and precision strikes, equipped with six loitering munition types and four ISR drone variants under trials.
