A former IAS officer is political successor of Nitish Kumar?

Former IAS officer Manish Verma, 50, has formally joined the JD(U). He was advisor to the Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) supremo Nitish Kumar. A 2000 batch Odisha-cadre  IAS officer Verma had taken voluntary retirement (VRS) in 2018. During the recent Lok Sabha polls, he extensively toured all the 16 parliamentary constituencies the party contested. Like Nitish, Verma belongs to the Kurmi (OBC) community and also shares Nalanda connections with Nitish. Though Verma’s name has been doing the rounds as one of Nitish’s possible successors for a long time, he was not given a political position after his VRS. Verma was originally allotted Odisha cadre but later, on his request, he was given Bihar cadre.
