BJP successfully making inroads in Muslim community in UP?

In a key political development indicating the saffron party’s outreach to minorities in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP’s Muslim membership has almost doubled in the last decade. It was 1.25 lakh in 2014, when the party stormed to power at the centre with an overwhelming majority. However, the latest figures (updated till Sep 24) show that it has almost doubled to 2.35 lakh. A further analysis of the membership data show, the maximum enrolment has come from politically crucial west UP region where at least 81,677 Muslims have accepted the BJP’s membership. This is more significant since Muslim form the crucial block politically, particularly in Uttar Pradesh. An analyst says, “Minority community too is happy with the improved law and order condition in the state.”
