Delhi polls: BJP to come out all guns blazing against Kejriwal and Atishi

BJP is all set to give a tough fight to the former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and present Chief Minister Atishi in Vidhan Sabha elections. Former Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma’s son and former West Delhi MP Parvesh Verma’s name has been discussed for the New Delhi seat, the sources said. Also, former South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri’s name was in contention from Kalkaji, currently represented by Delhi CM Atishi. Notably, the New Delhi seat has been a stronghold of the Delhi Chief Minister since 1998, barring 2014 and 2015 and after Kejriwal stepped down from the post in September this year. Former Chief Minister and Congress leader Sheila Dikshit held the seat from 1998 until 2013, while Kejriwal has represented it from 2015. The Assembly elections are slated for early next year in the national Capital.

BJP’s national, state leaders under contention for Delhi Assembly polls

The BJP is likely to field all 7 MLAs, however, there could be an exception. Barring Parvesh Verma (New Delhi) and Ramesh Bidhuri (Kalkaji) former New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi’s name was being discussed from Greater Kailash, currently held by AAP Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj. Late Delhi CM  Madan Lal Khurana’s son, Harish Khurana, is being considered from the Moti Nagar seat. The party could field BJP National General Secretary Dushyant Gautam from Karol Bagh, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva from Kasturba Nagar or Vishwas Nagar, and former Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay from Malviya Nagar. Other names such as Anil Sharma from RK Puram and former AAP Minister Rajkumar Anand from Patel Nagar have also been discussed. In addition to these leaders, sources said senior BJP leaders from both its National and State units are also under contention for high-profile political contests.
