Why did a 'born congressman' sing RSS anthem?

In Karnataka, the ruling Congress party is in a fix over behaviour of DK Shivakumar, Dy CM and PCC Chief. He sang the RSS anthem in the state assembly during a debate on stampede in the stadium in June. Later, he clarified that he is a 'born Congressman.' But he could not give a satisfactory reply. Why did he sing an RSS anthem?
