BJP Joins Opposition For The First Time in Flagging Voter Roll Deletions in Odisha !

BJP leader Sambit Patra has written to the Election Commission (EC) raising concerns over the proposed deletion of nearly 9.8 lakh voters during the ongoing electoral roll revision in Odisha. In his communication, Patra urged the poll body to ensure that no voter is removed without thorough verification and due process, stressing the need for transparency and accountability.
He warned that large-scale deletions, if not carefully scrutinised, could risk disenfranchising eligible voters and undermine confidence in the electoral process. Patra called on the EC to clearly outline the methodology being followed and to provide adequate safeguards for affected individuals to appeal or rectify discrepancies.
Significantly, this marks the first instance of the ruling Biju Janata Dal aligning with opposition parties in questioning the EC over voter roll revisions. Opposition groups across states have previously alleged irregularities in similar exercises.
The development signals a rare convergence of concerns across party lines, even as the EC maintains that revisions are being conducted in accordance with established guidelines.
