As multiple exit polls project a potential Congress-led victory in Kerala, senior  Congress leader KC Venugopal is emerging as the leading contender for the Chief Minister’s post. A trusted aide of Rahul Gandhi and the party’s current General Secretary (Organisation), Venugopal has steadily consolidated his position within the Congress high command, making him a natural choice for leadership in the state.

Venugopal, a former Union Minister and MP from Alappuzha, brings both administrative experience and organisational clout. His proximity to the central leadership is seen as a key advantage, particularly at a time when the Congress is seeking tighter coordination between state units and the national leadership.

Within Kerala, his relatively non-controversial image and acceptability across factions could help the party avoid internal friction an issue that has historically affected leadership decisions.
